Hangman’s Elm, Washington Square Park. Although no legal recordings of hangings exist at the site, rumours have perpetuated throughout the centuries that this tree was the site for multiple executions. But only the hanging of Rose Butler in 1820 exists in records. Although the tree isn’t as ‘haunted’ as it used to be believed, WSP kind of is. The park used to be a slave burial ground, then a burial ground for bodies affected by yellow fever. Later it was turned into military parade grounds (this is all pre-civil war, btw) and then eventually turned into a public park. The Elm tree is the oldest known tree in Manhattan, at approximately 330 years old.
I was just walking by it on the gloomy rainy day and the clouds made the sky look white and I always love dead tree branches and the way they look like veins. … or if you want to get technical, capillaries.

I’ve always been fascinated by fashion photography, and people in pretty things doing things they shouldn’t be, so today I decided to try it a bit. I threw on a dress I wore to my friend’s deb ball, walked over to the other side of our pond, and tried out some stuff. It ended up giving me a few shots I liked, which were really hard to decide between. (I had a ton of fun climbing this tree)
